Durham, NC – May 20, 2008:
The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club swings into Father’s Day this year with Birdies and Brunch, a special gourmet and golf treat for fathers and their families. First, the Inn is offering a superb a la carte brunch in the Inn’s AAA Four Diamond Award-winning Fairview Dining Room. And to make the event that much more enjoyable, the Golf Club’s pros will be on hand to provide putting and chipping tips to Dad before or after his meal. The Inn is now taking reservations for its Birdies and Brunch Father’s Day celebration, scheduled for Sunday, June 15, 2008, from 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. To make reservations, contact the Fairview Dining Room, 919.493.6699, or visit OpenTable.com.
“Birdies and Brunch will be a terrific family-friendly way to celebrate Father’s Day,” says Randy Kolls, general manager at the Inn. “And to be able to host this sort of event during one of the most exciting weeks on the USGA calendar is just icing on the cake.” Kolls is referring to the 2008 U.S. Open at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, CA. The final round of this prestigious annual event is always slated for Father’s Day.
Built in 1957, the 18-hole championship course at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club was designed by Robert Trent Jones. In 1993 and 2005, Jones’ son, Rees, redesigned the course and its practice areas, respectively. Since 1988, PGA Master Professional Ed Ibarguen has served as the Club’s General Manager taking it to higher and higher levels of distinction; Zagat Survey and Golf Digest routinely recognize it as one of the best courses in the area. Unlike many courses of the same caliber, the Duke University Golf Course is open to the public. And with the region’s mild climate, golfers may enjoy a great game year-round.
The Fairview Dining Room is locally, regionally and nationally renowned for its seasonally inspired contemporary cuisine, exceptional service, extensive wine list and glorious vistas of the Duke University Golf Club. Executive Chef Jason Cunningham leads the talented staff that creates the restaurant’s AAA Award-winning fare. French, Italian and American wines comprise the wine collection, which consistently receives the Wine Spectator magazine Award of Excellence.
The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club is located on the campus of Duke University, only twenty minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport and ten minutes from Research Triangle Park, and is the only AAA Four Diamond hotel in Durham. Nestled on 300 acres filled with tall pines and hardwoods, the Inn is known for its beautiful facility and grounds, 271 elegantly appointed guest rooms and suites, marvelous cuisine in the Four Diamond Award-winning Fairview Dining Room, the Bull Durham Bar, a Robert Trent Jones-designed 18-hole championship golf course, and convenience to local points of interest. It is set apart from other area hotels and conference centers by its unparalleled service, gracious staff, luxurious interiors and attention to detail. The Inn is owned by Duke University and is managed by The Continental Companies of Miami, Florida.
